Those rooms are much nicer and they have their own private pool and nicer beach area. They do offer a “Preferred” status bookings. But we still ran into pockets of loud-mouthed partying folks especially at the pool in the middle of the resort. Thankfully, there were not a bunch of college-age kids. The crowd was middle-aged for the most part. This apparently is the only adults-only property on the island. Thank heavens because I couldn’t imagine staying in a smaller room. We lucked out, too, by getting a larger room than we booked. The faucet was so close to the inside of the bowl, you couldn’t wash your face very easily. The bathroom was so small you could barely open the door. I wouldn’t say they were dirty, just that they needed a coat of paint or something. The best beer they had was Dos Equis, although the house wine (both the red and the white) was actually pretty good. As for the alcohol, it was not “premium” as advertised. The food was usually buffet and their food catered to families with children. However, we had no interest eating there. Staying at Secrets, you have privileges at the neighboring Sunscape Sabor. I’ve found many mistakes made in that regard. Be sure to mention the gluten-free request to the server. At least many of their menus indicated which selections were gluten-free. The saving grace for me is that I am gluten-free. The morning buffet wasn’t bad but wasn’t great either. One of their restaurants, Bordeaux, however, was very good. The food at Secrets Aura was average at best. We posted a separate 5-star review for them. We dove with Dressel Divers who were great. We booked this resort because we were going to Cozumel specifically to scuba dive. The property is definitely in need of being freshened up. They acquired the property four years ago from Wyndham. Apparently, this property was not built for Secrets. We’ve stayed at other properties in the Caribbean with the same rating, and those properties were much better than this one. However, their rating of 6 Golden Apples for this property is way off.
We’ve booked several trips through Apple and feel they do a very good job. We stayed at the Secrets Aura in Cozumel from October 21 – 28, 2017. The food was usually buffet and their food catered to families with.
